Meta Now Charges for Organic Links. Build an Audience You Own

Meta launched Meta One on September 15, a paid subscription across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Two parts of it matter most for small businesses.

What changed

On Instagram, clickable links in organic posts and Reels start at the Advanced plan, which costs from $49.99 a month. Reported limits at that tier are four posts and four Reels with links each month.

On Facebook, some Pages can include external links in only two organic posts or comments a month without a subscription. Meta began testing the cap in December 2025 and expanded it in September. It does not cover every Page, and links to Meta’s own apps do not count.

Also, plans are priced per account and by region. At the Advanced starting price, one account costs about $600 a year.

Why it matters

Many small businesses use social posts to send people to their website. Now that route has a price or a limit. As a result, a platform you do not control decides how much traffic you can send yourself.

What to do

Email gives you a direct line to people who asked to hear from you. We covered how to run it well in why your email and social media need one plan. Check your tracking rules too, as covered in email tracking consent in the UK.

FAQ

Does this affect every Facebook Page?

No. The cap is a rollout and a test, so some Pages see it and others do not. Affected Pages see a message when they add a link.

Is a paid plan worth it?

It depends on what your link traffic is worth. Work out the value of a visit first, then compare it with the yearly cost.
